The World Health Organization (WHO), founded on 7 April 1948, primarily aims to direct and coordinate international health within the United Nations’ system. It also supports countries as they coordinate the efforts of multiple sectors of the government and different partners to attain their health objectives, and to support their national health policies and strategies.
The World Medical Association (WMA) is an international organization representing physicians, founded on 17 September 1947. The WMA provides a forum for its member associations to communicate and co-operate freely to achieve consensus on high standards of medical ethics and professional competence, and to promote the professional freedom of physicians worldwide. The WMA aims to achieve the highest international standards in Medical Education, Medical Science, Medical Art and Medical Ethics, and Health Care for people around the world.
International Affiliations
The United Nations (UN) is an international organization founded in 1945 made up of 193 Member States. The mission and work of the United Nations are guided by the purposes and principles contained in its founding Charter, which includes issues confronting humanity in the 21st century, such as peace and security, climate change, sustainable development, human rights, disarmament, terrorism, humanitarian and health emergencies, gender equality, governance, food production, and more. The Organization is also a platform for governments to find areas of agreement and solve problems together.
